Rural Locations In Ireland – Top Choice For Eastern European Workers & Staff

Rural Locations In Ireland Accommodation for Workers

MPR Recruitment has found that Eastern European job candidates coming to Ireland to work prefer taking up employment and living outside of Dublin in favour of more rural towns and villages. This is primarily for the reasons below. It also shows that there are plenty of opportunities for employers based outside Dublin in smaller towns or more rural areas, and who are experiencing shortages in staff or skilled workers and finding it difficult to recruit from within in Ireland, that recruiting and hiring Eastern European staff can be a viable option and attractive solution for both parties.

1. Accommodation

The story of our accommodation crisis has reached every shore in Eastern Europe. No new employee from a new country wants to spend the first 6 months of their life in Ireland looking up Daft.ie and queuing to view apartments every evening in Dublin.

Therefore, the preference for candidates is to locate in areas outside of Dublin where the accommodation costs are more reasonable. The Candidates before they come to live in Ireland do not have a particular preference to a location in Ireland and therefore rural locations rather than Dublin.

It can be harder to get a “Dub” to relocate to a rural location than a Romanian or Polish Candidate to locate to a Country Town.

The Employers who can use their knowledge and influence in the locality to assist candidates to find accommodation will rank higher with candidates when deciding on which offer is the most attractive.

2. Cost Of Living

The lower level of cost of living whereby you do not have to get a “mortgage for a pint” is also more attractive to the Eastern European Candidate. The lower level of cost of living allows the candidate to save more of their wages to send home to their own country or to save up towards flights home etc.

3. Rural Towns

Outside of the main cities and capitals, Eastern European countries are primarily agricultural like Ireland. The Eastern European candidates prefer smaller town and rural locations in Ireland to live as it reminds them more of their own small town and they can assimilate more easily to this rural way of life.
